Baby things

Yesterday, hubby and I went to "BabiesRus" because I had decided to by Nick and Alicia the stroller they wanted on their registry. OMG, the thing looks like a MONSTER! I had never paid that much attention to strollers other than the fact that they now have CUP HOLDERS!!! Anyway, I am moving it and looking at it on the platform and I asked Gerry to take it down so I could actually "work" it. OMG the thing weights less than a pound! I could pick it up with one hand. First thing Gerry said was, "It has cup holders". I laughed, and then he goes on...."and the storage, it even has double wheels in the front and take a look at the car seat". I know, I told him, it just pisses you off doesn't! I look at him and say, "Makes you want another baby just to use all these fancy things huh?" hehehehe. I got the flat out "NO" . It was too funny.

So, because we brought the Mustang as we were already out and about, he had to go home and get a bigger car while I stayed and wrapped it at their "free" wrapping paper station. I should have taken a picture of THAT. It had to be done in layers and I used a-l-o-t of paper and tape. It would have cost me $10 to do it myself so why not use theirs!! I threw the 10 pages of registry in the garbage can as I was not going to spend anymore money.

So while I was waiting for him to come back, just standing there, I dug the registry back out of the garbage and secured my large package in a cart behind the counter and began to look at other things they had picked out. It was truly a weird feeling to see what tastes your kids have. I was impressed with the 3-in-one crib that turns into a bed and that it was natural wood color and the accompanying items like the changing table etc....Ours were solid hardwood that took a Mac truck to move but then our kids crib belonged to my husband so it went though many kids and relatives after us. Then I went to the high chair area and I was like whaaaat? The slide in table had two attachments for gosh sakes!! Unreal!

Now here is the High Chair. If you can see it, in the tray it has a pop in tray with a CUP HOLDER, (it's over to the left), what they don't show is ANOTHER tray that is clear plastic that fits over the entire tray. Absolutely crazy. What is wrong with just the one tray that everyone has used for centuries. Am I just old fashioned?

It was very weird to be in this store buying and looking for items for my future granddaughter. I can't explain it, it just brought it to a whole other dimension. Tell me too if you know, but it feels different in that it is my son and not my daughter and therefore I feel I am one step removed. I think if it was my daughter it would be a whole different experience. Maybe it's the mother-daughter bonding thing etc.. that you don't necessarily have with your son as men don't get pregnant. LOL

Only 7 weeks left!

Have a wonderful Sunday everyone...:)

Baby items have certainly gotten a lot more...fancy...as the years have gone by. But then again, when you think back to the Model T Ford compared to cars now, you can certainly see how the old baby paraphernalia had tons of room for improvement. :)

LOL @ the "NO" answer you dh gave!

Funny post! I can just visualize the "NOOO" from Gerry. [giggle]

Anyway, buying baby stuff all I can say is: "better thee than me ..." [tee hee]

Enjoy the grandkid! Hope all goes well for the new family. ((Hugs)) :o)

I like the stroller! I remember they were outrageously expenses when Bella was born 10 years ago so I didn't dare put it on my registry, instead I picked a less expensive one but was still really niiiiiiice. Went through both the kids just fine. The one thing I would have improved was a removal cushion though because of the diaper leaks. But by now, they probably do have removalble cushions. I can't wait to see it all when I go shopping for them soon.

We missed you at the party today but I know you were busy doing all your chores. Talk to you soon.

I bought my d.i.l. a stroller for the baby shower at Babies R Us, too. Darn, you almost have to mortgage your house to purchase these strollers!!!

I just looked at the Babies-R-Us registry for a work-mate's baby shower.

The thing that really got me was a microfiber overstuffed chair for the little one. I think it was intended for toddlers, but who knows? My nephew's young'n is being potty-trained at age 7 months.

7 weeks! Oh I can feel your excitement by this post, Melody, in spite of it being your daughter-in-law! Am sure all will be deliriously happy!
Congratulations!

p.s. My sentiments exactly on your love of log cabins. When I lived near Hunter Mountain in upstate New York, my ex and I, truly considered buying one. Not to be -- note the "ex". ;)

That stroller is pretty nice, but after all, it will be transporting some very precious cargo! I'm sure they'll be thrilled to have that huge expense taken care of. Enjoy these last few weeks of preparations. :)

I often wonder how we ever managed when I see what is on offer today.

We were overwhelmed too looking for a high chair for our first grandchild. Too many choices. It's amazing all the new stuff that the kids have to choose from. It is different with your sons but just be there and enjoy that grandbaby and don't make her/his mom mad at you. Gotta bite your tongue a bit sometimes. BUT there is nothing better than being Grandma or whatever you choose to be called. You will melt when they start to recognize you and that first smile. Then when they walk in the door and say " Gramma it's me ....... where are you???" And then the "Gramma, I love you soooo much!" It's awesome! You are in for a very good time!

LOL that's the same stroller my daughter bought last year when my granddaughter was born. I couldn't believe the cup holders etc either! I really wanted a "buggy" for her, but that's to old fashioned these days according to my daughter. It's wonderful being a grandmother. You'll love it!

7 weeks will go so quickly - what wonderful things babies and children have nowadays - just thinking however did our Mums manage with their huge prams and cotton nappies or (diapers I think you call them) to wash and no automatic washing machines - you are really going to enjoy being a grandmother:)

Melody the day my daughter told me back in July of 2007 that she was pregnant we all went to Babies R Us that day. When I say we all I mean me, my daughter, my two sisters. Later my mom, sister and three nieces joined us. We had a blast in that store. I bought like $300 of stuff that first visit. I was so crazy. All of the new stuff was awesome. I just didn't know what to think of everything. It had been over 20 years since I even thought of baby stuff. lol My hubs told her earlier that day that we would furnish the nursery. So we were doing the baby registry (later her and her hubs went back so he could be included). lol I have nine weeks til my new grandson gets here. I agree with Laura your going to love being a grandmother!
