Going Postal Sort Of...

This time, the phrase "Gone Postal" doesn't apply to a postal employee....... on Saturday, March 7th.....

The caption under this picture in the Contra Costa Times read:

"In front of Ed's Mudville Grill, Concord police officer Don Lawson puts a man believed to be a stabbing suspect back into a Clayton police car following a morning stabbing at the nearby post office in Clayton, Calif., on Saturday March 7, 2009. Witnesses in the area said the man with blood on his hands fled the post office and was captured by citizens, postal workers and off duty law enforcement officers dining at the restaurant."

The officer in this photo is my older brother. My brother has been with the Concord Police Department for almost 30 years. This is just one of the many times he has been in the paper.
Police haven't investigated a killing since June 1995 in Clayton, a bedroom community of fewer than 11,000 residents. This is a very small, quaint town. When I saw the buildings surrounding this post office it looks to be right next to my insurance agent! According to the paper this man The male suspect, Shannon Bradley Moore, 37, of Concord, walked into the post office and stabbed a 73 year old man who innocently went in to pick up his mail. There was no known connection between the two men. Then the suspect walked out of the post office and ran down the street into a restaurant where he was subdued by patrons until the police got there.
I have been on occasion known to ride along with my brother while he is working and I must say, some times not much goes on and some times it is quite exciting.
Times are getting hard people and I fear that more of this kind of violence is to come in one form or another. A down economy always brings out frustration, not to say that this is the case here but we all must keep any eye on our surroundings. When ever I go anywhere, I am always looking over my shoulder aware because you just never know.
**UPDATE** I am sorry I didn't mention that this was a fatal stabbing. The victim died at the scene of his wounds.

Blessings to your brother. I am a daughter of a State Trooper (now retired). I know the worry it is for the loved ones of these brave people who protect us everyday. And prayers for the elderly victim. Any word on how he is doing?

This is terrible! I hope that the little old man is okay. I have been watching over my shoulder more than ever now too.

Come on over to my blog...I have an award for you.

Hugs,

I just don't get it. Why stab an innocent?? This is just terrible. I commend your brother for his job but man, how does he do it or how does he deal with this kind of stuff. What is this world coming to?

Oh I hated to hear he died. You are right people are getting frustrated. Here in Alabama today a man went on a shooting spree in a small town too. I haven't got the chance to hear the whole story but from what I understand he shot people at different locations. Sad.

Hop over to my blog and see what's happening. Make sure you are there before 2:00 p.m. (CST) tomorrow!

You must be so proud of your brother!!

Regarding the Sacramento Antique Faire...you don't need to wait until next year...it's every month! The second Sunday of each month. Here is the link: http://sacantiquefaire.com/

Your brother is so brave (and handsome too)! I have many friends that are in the police profession, one of which is our local Sheriff. I always say an extra prayer for them to be safe. Tell your brother "Thank You" for keeping others safe.

Back to the incident, I heard on Neil Cavuto (Fox News) how things were starting to escalate about folks getting violent. It's only going to be a problem in the areas / States where the law abiding citzenery is disarmed. Here in Georgia we ALL carry. I have a 9mm Keltec that is ALWAYS in my pocket or purse and a "38 Special" in the truck. Anyone start that here and they will take a dirt nap. An armed society is a polite society.

Be careful and be safe pal. God bless ya. ♥ ∞

These incidents are always horrible, I just heard on the news that there has been a shooting at a school in Germany today. these things make my mind boggle, why shoot innocent people?
It also goes to show that people like your brother do wonderful work and are really needed!
I hope that both you and him keep safe!
(By the way, thanks for visiting my blog and leaving a comment).

How tragic. I hope people can rise about the economy and their circumstances and realize that violence accomplishes nothing. Just pain and sorrow and devastation. Your brother is very brave (and quite good looking!)

What a good looking bunch of people you all are! That was a very sad story; the man killed was an active member of the community. Thank your brother for being a police officer!!! We need all the good looking policemen protecting us for sure!!!

I know this isn't relevant to the story, but in that picture Uncle Donnie looks just like Bradly only with darker hair!

Did I upset you? If I did, I do humbly apologize. It must be this new thyroid medicine (I have an underactive thyroid and they're stil tweaking my dosage). Got me all in a tizzy. [tee hee] Anyway, I meant no harm. ((Hugs)) ♥ ∞

Melody I am SO happy Tigger is doing better!! I knew he would be just fine. Emma is doing wonderful! She's getting a little honry (sp?). Hehe! She and Quincy play together all the time. He really needed someone younger. Now they're deciding that from 11 p.m. and on it's track night in my place! UGH. I can't stop them...not if they're having fun. I just pull the covers over my head. Hehe!

How tragic this was. I am truly more aware of my surroundings now. I have talked to my grandkids about this too.
